In general, layovers on these sorts of tickets have to be less than 24 hours, though you can sometimes purchase a stopover for a reasonable additional fee. It all depends on the fare rules.

When I flew this route with UA/ANA last November, I had an 18 hr layover (with an airport transfer) in Tokyo on my way back because it fit my schedule better.

ANA was supposed to implement a new “premium” seating option earlier this year - aka all aisle or window seat for an extra fee. Not sure if they rolled that idea back, but something to consider.
