Don't get a 3.0, get a 3.1. it's well worth the extra $, even if u only use 3.0 now, the future is 3.1 and u don't want to rebuy a cable modem then.

I work in telecommunications, unless you need Gig internet this is fine. Most companies will support this for a long time. We just got rid of support for DOCSIS 2.0 and that's ancient.

Yes, you need a cable modem that supports voice specifically. you need to look on your provider's compatibility page to find out which ones they support. usually it isn't a very big list.
