They are insanely expensive because the HVAC contractors charge waaaaay too much to install mini splits. Mr. Cool saw that and released th DIY version at a very steep price but still below contractor...

I don't know why they are so expensive. You can find guys that'll cross over a mini split for you and install it at your house on San Diego for like $600 total parts and labor.
