Actually it raises the black level around your monitor so you can’t see how shit your monitor actually is. It raises the perceived contrast level and lets you see your keyboard without glare.

I have one, It's only good if you keep your monitor about 20 inches or less from the edge of your desk, it's illumination range from the screen toward you isn't that much.
