I think the only adapters they sell for nvme pcie are to USB. The ones to sata are for b and m key sata drives that don't actually support the faster pcie format and are really just sata drives that...

You shouldn't buy an M.2 drive if you don't have a slot for it. Using an adapter removes all of the advantages of using a NVMe drive and standard SATA 2.5" drives are usually cheaper.
