Your router would have to support print server functionality in its firmware. Many do. If yours doesn't, look into re-flash it with one of the open source systems like tomato or dd-wrt.

Not a noob question at all. Your printer needs to have printer server functionality. It will say so on the features or specs. Most cheap routers don't have that functionality unless you flash them...
