We got a 13” MBP, i5 8gb and 512gb SSD last week for the same price at Costco in Seattle. It’s very warehouse dependent I think since they only had one behind a locked case.

These have worse airflow than MBP. Also due to Apple's desire for quiet over performance you will also find plenty of throttling in the MBPs as well.

The chance of a SSD failing is very slim and if you are buying any laptop especially a Macbook over $1000 you need to get the warranty If you end up selling that 16" in 3 years before the warranty...
