The slide/grill feature is useless anyway. If you want direct flame add on a sidekick or searbox. I personally recommend the sidekick.

I own a DLX pro and it's the best pellet smoker you can get in this price range. Its solid i get consistency everytime I smoke ribs , tri tip, brisket or even whole chickens. No flare ups!
