Masonry means brick, concrete, or stone. You need a harder metal or it can't chip into the brick. The same is true with drilling through metal. All steel bits are hard enough for just about any wood....

These are great - here in PR most houses are concrete blocks and cement, so I need to break out the hammer drill for even hanging up pictures (command hooks don't work well unfortunately).

They'll work on masonry with any HAMMER drill. (Don't try super hard to find a weird drill or an impact driver they don't work with.)
