How is something more or less "necessary"? Either it's necessary or it's not. "Least useful" would make sense. Anyway, this product is great at helping dishes dry and reduce water spots.

I noticed that too. I had to use a rinse agent in my previous Whirlpool and Kenmore dishwashers. Now I have a Bosch with the all steel inside. Haven't had to use any rinse agent. Dishes come out dry...
