2.6 HP is way too weak. I have a Honda 8HP 4-stroke to power a 1436 Jon boat and it is barely adequate.

I can't imagine using this cheapo and depending on Chinese quality to get me back home. The other post is correct, better to buy a real outboard used.

If you want a good outboard, instead of spending $500 on this headache, hit Craigslist and find a mid-80s Evinrude or Johnson 6HP - 10HP. It will run forever.
