X16 generation seems decent but x12 drives like to die in a few months. Definitely a dud generation. The problem is Seagate tends to have “dud generations” more often than HGST.

Any way you slice it, all of those drives have ridiculously low Annualized Failure Rates. Backblaze had their lowest overall AFR quarter ever. Getting rid of those WD drives made a big difference....

It's a datacenter class HDD, i.e. the highest of the top tier, and the highest capacity too. If you need an HDD and can swing this definitely pull the trigger ASAP; these things are tough to find...

If you open the deal list on newegg, at the bottom you have the list for tomorrow grey out. I think I might get the 14tb if tomorrow s price is good. 16tb is a lot if I lose it and also fairly $$$.

If it supports drives larger than 4TB, it will almost certainly support larger drives. This drive is also SATA and not SAS, so I would almost guarantee it would work.

Backup, either separate, in RAID or both is recommended. I don't think there is much of a difference whether you lose 14GB or 16GB of your stuff.
