You don't need it in case of Edifier as they have get nice bass. Of course it's not the same as with sub but will help to save a valuable space

there are plenty of other options. look at entry level products from Canton and Monitor Audio, just to name a couple. KEF are another option but slightly more expensive.

Agreed. You don't want their "4" series unless you have a sub. The "5"s have a lower cutoff but I'm still missing some bass. I'd be quite unhappy if I chose the 4 as a stand-alone.
