I have the 580's and they are perfectly at ear level, I guess it just depends on how high your sofa is or if you have a huge bottom which causes you to sit in a higher position.

I have a 580 center, 590 for LR, and 530s for surround. I think the 580 is the sweet spot if you have subs. It's a definite improvement over the 530s. Hopefully they go back on sale soon!

That's actually not true with the Crown, it has selectable input sensitivity. You can use any standard ~2v RMS DAC from a PC with it just fine.
