It's because rechargeable are 1.2v vs 1.5v in regular alkaline batteries. The slight difference in voltage doesn't work well for the motor that has to unlock your lock. Cheapest if I remember...

I have these and they are trash. The charge doesn't last long and they are weak. Personally I find most Amazon branded items are cheaply made besides the echo stuff
