I have the ones from Home Depot, they look identical, but aren't called "ultrablade". I love them and have none of the issues you're describing. Not sure if maybe the target version is a cheaper...

I really like this pruner but remove the lock mechanism for the same reason. I avoid pruners that have an exposed spring between the handles as they alway fall out.
