What I do is have 2 back up drives, if it's just photos you might wanna invest in SSD less moving parts. Also Google photos or something similar is free but lower quality

Google photos only lowers quality if photos are larger than 16mp... Very few phones take pictures bigger than that. 16mp or smaller, they are uploaded and stored in original quality

Definitely no more than 5900 RPM. Listings often combine across capacities so it’s possible any capacities up to 2 TB are 7200 RPM.

these are 3.5'' drives inside in case anyone was wondering. Staples states they're 7200pm, but I highly suspect they're really ~5000 rpm as all the shucking info has them being 5400-5900 drives.
