This grinder sucks. Not enough power to cut cast iron pipes. Being said that, the paddle switch has no problem. You just use it wrong. Just push it to on position, and it will spin continuously....

I wouldn’t cut the cement board with a saw. That dust is nasty! If you do, at least heed the warnings on the cement board and wear a respirator. Hardy Backer, at least, recommends scoring the boards...

I vote no. The switch might go bad sooner on a cheap HF unit, but for your use case I'd just use the cheapo personally.
