Ecobee used to have upper hand with extra sensors. Now you can add it to Nest also. I am leaning towards Nest as you can have google ecosystem of thermostat, outdoor cam, smoke detectors .

I don't think it's possible for them to verify it's being used at the address buying it. The only limitation is the shipping address has match a PSEG NJ customer.
