Sounds like you either have a defect or don't have the right fitting ear tips on. Without the proper fit they sound horrible, but that's the case with most IEMs/buds.

Based on what I read, the fake ones will pair and play audio and stuff but the official galaxy buds app will not recognize it. It's an easy way to tell if the buds are fake or not.
