Possible that we got different versions- I read in reviews they gave version 1 and 2 , 1 is stable while 2 is not.

In my experience, these are more about whether the arms will go far enough apart while still allowing you to face the monitors at the correct angle and are usually just barely able to at the maximum...

Gas and I would guess it would work upside down. The weight is taken by how much tension you set on the gas spring.

This is not a true statement. You can use the mount if your desk is against a wall, it just will not be flush

Nope. Dual 27s barely fit side by side due to arm length. Not sure they even explicitly support it. But my Acer's do fit.
