I personally recommend slanted shoe racks. These flat designs allow dirt to just build on the surface and will require you to routinely clean. Slanted designs won't cause this issue.

I don’t think anybody really buys a $20 shelf and expects a whole lot out of it. These aren’t the crate and barrel types. So I guess in that sense their demographic is not too picky.
