Great deal, but I'm tired if the fact that every time Newegg has a WD Red deal, it's limit 2. I would guess that many people interested in these would want four or more, especially in this capacity.

Depends what you're doing with them I guess, but generally for media servers, HDD speed isn't the bottleneck.

You can get this hard drive cheaper by purchasing the 8TB Western Digital Portable hard drive and then shucking the plastic casing off it. That’s what I did, purchased two of them at $130 a piece...

Yes. In my experience (and reading on SD), when shucking, there's a much higher chance of getting a white label drive over a red label drive.
