You could use 12tb drives In your raid now even if it's wasted space at the moment. If you eventually replace all your drives with 12tb or larger then you could increase your raid capacity :)

Need 10tb deal for my NAS because 12TB would lead to unused space (due to RAID). Really sucks that 12 is such a better deal, would love to see the 10TB come down from its $160 sale price point...

Personally, I'm fine with "wasting" the lost capacity for the time being. I don't see a performance hit. And when I eventually replace smaller drives that die, with bigger drives, I'll be able to...

Drive matching is among the reasons I'm hesitant to setup a RAID NAS. Something more along the lines of UnRAID appeals to me since you can mix and match drives, and not have to waste older drives...

If you're concerned about drive matching, look into unRAID! Its the easiest solution that allows you to mix and match drives of any size as long as the largest one is your parity drive. And you can...

If you've considered it, I highly recommend checking out unRAID. I've been using it for about 6 months and man is it a godsend. It's simplified my storage situation so much and allowed me to expand...
