Not really. You typically only reload once. Doesn't take long to get back up to a low temperature like 225 or 250.

I would say try the pellet tube. 12in gets you about 5-6 of consistent smoke at any temp. I haven't even used the smoker box since I got one, just use the smoker to control the temperature.

Thin cuts or low mass meats will be better at that low temp. Otherwise they heat up too fast/cook and stop the smoke prematurely as they hit internal temps too fast. Fish comes to mind
