About the only VW that I wouldn't run this in is a modified 1.9 TDI Diesel Pumpe Duce engine. Other than that it is excellent oil for other VW engines even though it doesn't have the VW spec 502.00...

That's funney. I do the same. Wiped the OEM cam on my BRM, which is common problem even with VW spec oil. Replaced the cam with FrankO6 cam kit, running T6 with ZDDP, no problems after 120K more...

It really depends on filtration and if it's a diesel. Diesels I would change at 5000 due to soot (carbon) building in the oil, unless it has a bypass filtration system added, then 15-20k is possible...
