speed depends entirely on the controller and flash, as always you get what you pay for. that being said there are very few usb 3 sticks that aren't faster than 2.0 for at least the read side.

Yup, indeed. However I might add that in my personal experience, you see speed gains using a USB 3.0 flash drive on a USB 2.0 port but is only limited to the port speed as mentioned by bluekiwi.

The limiting factor is the slow write speed of your drive, not the transfer speed of the drive.

The problem is always the slow write speed. Took your words, USB 2.0. is 60MB/s. The list write speed is only 45MB/s.
