These nails are for securing sheet goods to 2x stock usually. Wall and floor sheeting basically. If you're looking to nail 2x4's together, you'd need 16 penny nails instead of these.

I took a used 40gal gas water heater and a couple car rotors to scrapyard. I believe I got like $10.75 or $11.75 back. It is certainly more than a penny per lbs.
