Don't know how it compares, but I saw Walmart has some Equate patches that are like a generic of the Icy Hot patches... think it's a 6 pack. Seeing $6.96 online for it

Not exactly. The strength of what you can buy here is 1%. In Europe they do sell the 1% one, but it is also available in 2%.

Exactly. If aspercreme works for someone it's probably safer and the same with OTC lidocaine as opposed to Voltaren.

My dads doctor just recommended some for his knee pain and we found it at Walgreens. They also sold it at Walmart....but they were out of stock of the biggest size. He says it works well for him....

Correct. Voltaren 1% is also available via prescription in the US and the 2% is a prescription under the name Pennsaid with 2% and 40mg diclofenac for more serious pain.
