If you plan on using this in public you can put a piece of cloth or a regular surgical mask over the exhalation valve and zip tie it in place to protect others.

These are better for the person wearing it. However, the filtered valves are one way...meaning they work when you inhale. But they filter nothing when you exhale and actually propel the germs...
