Damn! I also have the same Gateway FX p7805u gamming laptop from 2006/7 and it still is fast and powerful! Only downside is that the screen is a TN panel since IPS on a laptop was still expensive...

Fair enough on the time involved, I was comparing to converting out of the box. Part of my point was that adding RAM has more limitations, such as many 8 GB systems max out lower with soldered RAM...

Do not buy, that is an ancient laptop from 2013. This (Gateway) laptop uses Intel's late 2019 processor, basically as modern as you can get for a budget laptop.

Thats just how much a personal computer was back in those days. I sold IBM's and Packard Bells which were higher. The introduction of Gateway and Dell actually made them more affordable.

I agree, if it’s soldered then the more the better. Reinstalling windows isn’t too bad. I just added a M2 drive to a laptop with a 1TB 7200 drive and it works great. But it was a bit of a pain...
