IIRC there's veiled references that are great on re-reads, and pockets of absurdist humor - one of my favorite characters hails from a background that looks for divinity in old tv shows and movies,...

Awesome, so the consensus seams to confirm that even if they may deal with similar dystopian future society, if I enjoyed Snowcrash, I should definitely read Virtual Light. Thanks all!

Love Gibson since reading "Burning Chrome" in Omni magazine. Dread reading Stephenson as he needs 10 words to accomplish the job of one.
This is what they print on the back of his books now.

was DODO any good? I tried that on Audible and gave up in the middle. You could tell where it was supposed to be funny, just wasn't - and I love NS. I wrote it off to the co-author, but maybe it was...

Reading the description, this reminds me first of the premise of "They Live"

Another great trilogy from one of my favorite authors.

As with most comparisons of Stephenson books to Gibson books I’d say Gibson writes a much tighter story and is overall a better author and comparing these two is no exception. I am a fan of both and...

I think Gibson (without googling) was the guy that came up with the cyber punk style aka awesome. Of course Philip K Dick is the grand master.

Haven't read this one yet, but I would say they are quite different. Gibson is not silly, his stories are usually less extreme, and he's not all that interested in telling you all about science and...

Does anyone know how this reads compared to Neal Stephenson's Snowcrash? I feel like Snowcrash had a lot of dry humor. Does this read/feel similar?

I will have to give it another try. Cryptonomicon is probably my favorite book from any author.

Did you get to the Battle of WalMart? That was the funniest part to me. Definitely near the bottom of the list of NS books. My favorite is Cryptonomicon.

Gibson and Stephenson are my 2 favorite authors. The are very similar although Gibson still writes 300 page books and NS seems to need 800 pages to accomplish the same goal. You may find a little...
