Hot glue them shut otherwise they'll just become plastic landfill waste due to the inevitable mold. Was grossed out by the mold so we chucked ours after the first year.

I squirted the water out before putting them back in basket or shower cups. This will not eliminate mold formation but at least lessen it.

Same here. 2 ways to go about this: 1. Assume they are disposable and toss after maybe a month. 2. Take some super glue and seal up the hole(s), but this takes away from the squirting aspect.

E6000 glue works well. Done that with a lot of the kids toys similar to this. Few have broken through and tossed them over time.
