It does have a locking cam, but it's not something you could easily release with a second rope in the scenario you describe. You disengage it by hand, and it's meant as a lock, not as a general use...

Agreed. I'm thinking of when I tie down to my car's roof. I use knots when camping like this past weekend and that's fine, but don't trust myself to secure a load that could loosen on my car's roof.

Hooked this to the D ring on the canopy, placed a properly sized rope through it, attached the other end of the rope to the fixed tie-off point, and pulled the rope through the cam. So easy to use...
