That has been my experience as well when I purchased through groupon, never ended up getting my free food items, had to ask for both gift cards from Sam's CSR's.

Good deal with the coupon. You can usually find a Sams Club membership for free like this that offers a gift card back throughout the year but I havent seen many money makers.
