The 2K model doesn't have a built in indicator light for active camera. I just MacGyver it with a little piece of index card or 1/2 of the time I put it out of the USB anyways.

This is definitely the way to go. Physics is physics, and having a dedicated mic closer to your mouth is simply bare minimum tech. All that matters is delivery of video.

Could not agree more. An external mic, especially as cheap as they are, is bare minimum. I bought this webcam and the video is worlds better than my logitech 910.
