A UPS should not have an acrid smell, that is very likely your battery going bad. Hopefully you can get it RMA'ed, if not you'll need to buy new batteries.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these have a 8ms transfer time whereas the ones from Cyberpower have a 4ms transfer time. Check your PSU for hold up time just in case.
