This is correct. Just registered this exact tool, from the Woot sale. Comes up as 3 year warranty. That is true of Ridgid heat products and air compressors.

because a battery can't produce sustained 1100 degree heat. the heat comes from burning the butane fuel, the battery powers the fan that blows the heat.

I don't think you get how energy intensive heating coils are. Dewalt says "up to 990" as in it hit that temp after running it for 15 minutes and using up 3 battery packs to achieve the temperature....
