Read again, carefully. The warranty does not cover normal battery wear. But, the AppleCare does. That alone is more than enough to justify cost of AppleCare with AirPods.

Good point. The warranty does work well. I had the airpod 1st gen that i had to return after 2 years because the battery degradation made them completely useless.
