You are able to switch out of S mode quite easily, you just won't be able to switch back ...

The battery doesn't pop out or anything. It may be removable if you take off the bottom plate but I can't say for sure.

The only real issue, IMO, is the battery is on the small side and the CPU isn't ultra low power, so it probably doesn't work as a laptop you can use all day without carrying the charger. Otherwise...
