I did that and got confirmation - 2 weeks after shipping - that I had completed my trade-in. I paid $2.49 for mine. So from my experience it worked fine.

Amazon just received my Echo gen 1 and rejected it for "cracks or defects on screen or body". This is total BS as it was in mint condition! They charged my account $25, and are shipping it back.

The 1st gen Show sells for $48 on Ebay. Seems like it's worth keeping for $30 and you don't need to spend time to package and ship it.
