I had a 3TB that died just after it's warranty ran out. There was no warning. It started behaving badly. I started copying it's contents to another HDD. It died before I could get much off it.

Thats an interesting question. To use ssd you're going to need plenty of gold for your cold - they run around $100 per tb, versus 10 fir mechanical.

This is the best price for terabyte at the moment when planning to spend less than $100.
