Over the past 20 years I've owed several Seagate drives. Not one of them has ever failed. I've also had WD, Hitachi, Maxtor.. so many. Only failures I've had were WD. I don't think WD is a bad...

I’m having the same issue with a WD that I bought 3 years ago. I saved anything really important because I never know if my computer is going to be able to recognize it or not. Hate that whirring...

Not to pile on, but forget Seagate. Had 4 Seagates fail and just 1 WD fail in 21 years.

Maxtor? Now that's a bit of an old name. Seagate owns them now though. And WD owns HGST.

Never have your life on one hard drive. Keep a copy of things you really want on another drive. Highly unlikely that both drives fail at the same time.

My WD passport failed last year and I now bought this seagate. Looks like external HDDs will eventually fail regardless of brand. I wish cloud storage is cheaper for backups.

Meh. Last years black Friday I got a 2tb for $59.99 so these should be either more space or much cheaper imo.

Seagate, like all manufacturers, has some lines that are better/worse than others, and some runs that stand out in terms of reliability one way or another. Their 5.25" drives and SCSI drives were...

I didn't want to believe it, but these Seagate drives do fail. A 2TB portable Expansion drive bought in Feb 2019 can't be read by any computer, just makes a repetitive whirring noise. 1 yr warranty...
