Some older smart tv have outdated apps that can't be updated. Also in my case our LG tv has a bad wireless board that keep disconnecting even though I'm using a wired connection.

Spend the extra $12 and get the 4k. Volume control as tv power on the remote is well worth it IMO. 4k is also obviously nice and you get added storage to boot.

faster processor (6 core vs 4 core) and a built in echo dot. worth it for some people, but not most since they both do the same thing. roughly. the extra processor does help a little bit speed-wise...

It's pretty easy to add a USB to the 4K you just need to watch a tutorial I've been running one on mine for 6 months and it works pretty good.

I second this. Just set one up yesterday with a 128gb usb drive(half as internal storage half as external), it took about 5 minutes tops. Works as a dvr for IPTV.
