Most bookshelf speakers are passive. They require a receiver. Unless it’s monitor type active speakers . But I don’t think that’s what he was referring to. Short answer, yes - you need a receiver.

I would think the 650 is better when combined with the rear set because positional sound. This one has no positional sound since all speakers are in front of you. It may have higher quality speakers...

No, I have a q80r on my 65” 900f and a q60r on my 55” 900h. In my opinion they are the best sound bars. I use the ARC input and can control the volume to the speakers with my Apple TV remotes.

I found that to be the opposite. My issue was ordering from Amazon, no way to hear it first. The same sound bars were not very impressive in the store either.
