more than enough, this is a capable file server, even for SOHO use. Synology had the "friendlier OS" way back but QNAP has closed the gap.

Use direct play mode as this won’t do transcoding effectively. If all you want is plex, you can save money just buying a raspberry pi and attach a couple external USB drives in raid1..

For streaming only, yes it will do just fine. Transcoding on the fly with Plex will not work on this NAS

I don't think RAM is upgradable on this model. I have older version and I couldn't upgrade ram. Max memory on qnaps page shows 1gb ram. https://www.qnap.com/en-us/product/ts-231k/specs/hardware
