With the RAM upgraded (and a larger SSD), would this be good for possible video editing? I would not be using for gaming. Just writing code and maybe some photo + video manipulation.

It is a 144 Hz IPS Panel with 300 nits brightness and 99% sRGB color gamut. That is also mentioned in the main post, check again.

The CPU will be underpowered. This is an i5 with 4 Cores. For Video Editing, you should look for the 6 Core or 8 Core Laptops with slightly less powerful Graphics. My suggestion will be the Lenovo...

I was able to order this earlier in the day before it was OOS. I’ve actually been looking for a 17.3” gaming laptop. The nice screen, GPU and Thunderbolt sold me at this price. I’ll upgrade storage...

I just received this. It's not bad but its only a 60hz panel, not 144. I was surprised.

Does anyone know if the ram is upgradable? How many slots?

I was surprised. I approached it from 2 fronts; not as advertised and already opened. The screen although 60hz is kind of nice to look at. Performance is about equivalent to the Gateway 2060 which...

I got this laptop and am returning it. It is, by far, the loudest laptop I've ever owned. Do anything on it (like, a browser? notepad?) and the fans spin at 100%. It's not tolerable. The...

There is a quiet mode available to reduce fan noise.
Post #142372727 added 11-17-2020 2:04 PM by hoddy4 in Deal Talk
This one ended up a little unusual for me. I was very disappointed that it was only 60hz and that it wouldn't accept usb charging. Also it appeared to have been opened. But it did bench well and...

I ordered one and I’ll let you know how it turns out, but at this price point it is hard to find a laptop with thunderbolt and a nice screen.

Just bought it. Thanks for posting! I've been looking for a 17" laptop with a dedicated GPU. I don't really need an i7, plus the RAM & storage are easily expandable. Also, Chase Freedom has...

Truth be told I only see two things wrong with this system. 1. The screen is too big to carry around as a damn laptop lol 2. 8GB of memory, this is an easy $40 upgrade though so it's kinda worth it.

Seven pounds. Wow!
Post #142145666 added 11-12-2020 4:02 AM by RomanA9439 in Deal Talk
Wow, looks like a solid discount. How's the screen? Any heating issues?

I prefer a 15.6" form factor, but at this price, I might have to bite. RAM and HDD upgrades should be a breeze. Does anyone know if this is an IPS screen? Also, is the battery upgradable to a 90W...

yes the screen is 60 and you cant charge the laptop through the usbc. The laptop is nice but not quite as advertised. Also in my case it was obvious that it had been previously opened. Monitor may...

Yes, it is on the heavier side. But the whole Laptop is made of aluminum alloy and has very solid build quality. This model does hot have heating issues as well. Added benefit is the Thunderbolt 3...

How capable is a mobile 2060 at VR titles? Anyone know the wattage of this particular mobile 2060?
Post #142312088 added 11-16-2020 9:56 AM by kschlege in Deal Talk
Only 60hz and can't charge through USB-C sucks especially if it was advertised as 144 and thunderbolt.

I didn’t use chat. I used email. Told them up front that I was willing to return or accept a suitable discount. I then negotiated 25% as suitable.
Post #142968064 added 11-27-2020 8:59 AM by TheBigLibaoski in Deal Talk
Did you call, chat or email to get the 25% refund?
Post #142149377 added 11-12-2020 6:36 AM by derubermensch in Deal Talk
Seems to be a good deal...of course the processor and hard drives are not the best, but for $799, it's a pretty good gaming desktop replacement.
Post #142152194 added 11-12-2020 7:45 AM by BryantY3817 in Deal Talk
Yes, the GPU would be great for video editing. 6GB VRAM should be plenty for most rendering projects.
Post #142176329 added 11-12-2020 4:27 PM by roark1138 in Deal Talk
Thanks op! Was looking for this combo at this price point.
Post #142256993 added 11-14-2020 8:40 PM by TheBigLibaoski in Deal Talk
I received mine but haven’t opened it. If it’s only a 60 Hz screen, that’s a major disappointment since the specs state that it is 144.

I would add the HDD to your list as well. The 128GB SSD isn't usable for games. Because who wants to load games from a HDD like a peasant? That will be pretty slow and arguably below expectations...

This was another great deal since RTX 2060, and thunderbolt are unheard of together for under $1000. -- no doubt it was going to sell out. Only down side is the cpu and ram, but for casual buyers...

$800 was actually the most I wanted to pay for something configured like this. I was looking for 17.3” 144 Hz display with RTX 2xxx GPU. Thunderbolt is just icing on the cake. It is a heavy laptop...

I got the thunderbolt to be recognized but no usbc charging. As I mentioned, it is nice but at what price and for what use. I primarily want it for use with Oculus Link.

Tried speaking to a customer service representative via chat. They only offered a full refund with retuning the laptop. How'd you get them to offer you a partial reimbursement?
Post #142386644 added 11-17-2020 7:44 PM by JohnH9697 in Deal Talk
Yeh I think so. The laptop should be good. By the way, I did attach a egpu to the thunderbolt port but I don't have any graphics cards more powerful than the 2060.

We told them it’s opened and no way to return as org package. CSR said two options- 1 . 20% refund 2. Return to store. As you said, everything looks good to us. And it seems like a better...

We told them we already trashed the package and computer has been setup. Then they gave two options. Rerun or 20% to keep.
Post #142539457 added 11-20-2020 7:33 PM by JohnH9697 in Deal Talk
Just a final comment. The screen, although only 60hz, is one of the nicest ones that I have used for everyday viewing.
Post #142703212 added 11-23-2020 4:05 PM by nivla in Deal Talk
Also got them to agree to a 25% refund = $199 for the screen being 60Hz and not 144. At $799 this was a decent deal but at $599, its definitely a keeper.
