You will get some boost using an AMD CPU with an AMD GPU but if using an nVidia GPU, I would give the slight nod to Intel for gaming.

Definitely yes. I have the 6600k with a 980ti and it made me cry trying to play red dead 2. Once I upgraded to a 2700x I was playing much smoother. Now I'm waiting for a new gpu
