You are right to a degree - my Xbox One controller DOES need an adapter. But upon searching, newer models do have 3.5mm output which is going to work without an adapter.

I wore the arctis 1 for all of 5 seconds before I realized how uncomfortable the headphone is. The clamping force is just too much. If you have a large head, the arctis 1 will not be a viable option.
