A voice SIM means it includes a phone line that you can make calls.

There is a reset button on the back of the unit under the battery cover. Hold that for a few seconds and it will display "factory resetting now" on the screen.

Don't put the SIM in until you finish those steps as it may try to automatically update. It does ship with a T-mo SIM. Those steps are in order so you don't have to keep switching back and forth...
